  1. Sea of Glass

From the recording I Would Be the Sky EP

Lyrics

This may be the first-ever commercial recording of this little-known "plantation song", originally a call-and-response tune. It was documented by William Barton in his 1899 Old Plantation Hymns (Lamson, Wolffe and Co.) collected from freed slaves.

Oh, this union
Oh, this union
I love this union
Stand on the sea of glass
Satan tried my soul to slay
Sword of faith drove him away
(Refrain)
Jesus shook the manna tree
Shook it for you, He shook it for me
(Refrain)
Tallest tree in paradise
Christian call the Tree of Life
(Refrain)
Prettiest thing I ever done
Serve the Lord while I was young
